A Perfect Fitting Lampshade
If you buy a lamp that doesn’t comes with a lampshade or you want to get a new lampshade then use these design tips to find a shade that will perfectly match your lamp and lighting requirements:
- At eye level, the shade should sit just above the top base of the lamp.
- For decorative task lighting, the bottom of the shade should be at shoulder height when seated, so you don’t get excess glare from the light.
- For reading lights, use bigger shades to provide more directed, brighter light.
- Choose a lamp shade that matches the size and shape of the lamp base - make sure the shade is large and low enough to cover the lamp components and prevent glare from the light.
