Home Office Colors
Changing my home office wall color was the catalyst to an entire room re-design (you can see photos of this project in the Central Roost Project Gallery). The previous grey walls made the room feel small and dark, creating an unappealing work environment. I wanted a new color that would make the room feel bright and cheery so I would enjoy spending time there.
In the interest of time, I narrowed my selection down to just three colors -a light green, blue and yellow. I choose paint from Benjamin Moore because I like using their tester pots to try colors. The color I picked, ‘Silver Cloud’ (photo, far left) is a cool, grey-blue color. I picked blue because it is supposed to expand your interior space and evoke a sense of tranquility and calm (how I like to feel when I work).
I did one coat of primer over the original walls and then two coats of the new color. Total cost was $80. My new blue room in-progress:
Home office color tips:
- Choose a hue that matches your working mood so you will feel inspired and motivated. For example: Yellow - cheery, uplifting and stimulates creativity. Soft blues and greens - for a serene, calm, and tranquil environment.
- Consider the room’s light exposure at various times of the day and how this will affect the color and mood (eg. Southern exposure will add a warmer, yellow glow).
- Assess color chips or samples against a white or pale grey color because colors can influence each other (I painted primer over my current wall color before I tried my samples).
- Select a color that will blend with the furniture or change your furniture.
